Frequently Asked Questions

  • Classes are held at the Carmel Valley Chess Club: 9 Del FIno Place #201 (above Mika Sushi)

  • Nope! There are no long-term commitments and the only other fees are the ones charged by the credit card companies (you can also choose to pay by check/cash to avoid those). We operate month-to-month so that families have the flexibility they need.

  • We keep our groups intentionally small — under 10 students per session. This means more personal attention, better instruction, and a tighter-knit experience for every player. Quality over quantity, always.

  • Not at all! Our Recreational Chess Club welcomes players of all skill levels — from kids who have never seen a chessboard to those who already know their openings. Everyone starts somewhere, and every player belongs here.

  • Our youth program is open to kids ages 5–17. Whether your little one is just starting to learn or your teenager is ready to compete, we have a place for them.

  • The Youth Competitive Team is an add-on program for students who are ready to take their game to the next level. Members receive advanced instruction, more play time, online chess subscriptions, exclusive team swag, and more exciting perks to be announced. It must be paired with a Recreational Chess Club session.

    • Recreational Chess Club: $120/month

    • Recreational Chess Club + Youth Competitive Team: $240/month

  • Registration opens March 14! You must be on our email list to get access once enrollment opens.
